Novell is certainly very very serious about these technologies. There are numerous Brainshare sessions devoted to all of these technologies.

For example for digitalme --- Identity Object Models and APIs; Vison, Products and Roadmap; Understanding and integrating digitalme Technologies; DirCommerce

It looks to me like Novell is opening its directory software to any ambitious innovators that want to develop directory based apps.
