I am aware of the margin violations cited by the regulators, but I was referring to those firms which either via regional exchange memberships or Joint Back Office (JBO) agreements with clearing firms were offering 6:1, 8:1, or 10:1 leverage. Recently, regulators mandated that to receive any buying power multiplier over whatever Reg T specifies at the time (currently 2:1), one would have to become a registered representative (which largely implies, as I previously, becoming an employee) or trading under some exemption.
