LonWorks is not tied to home or building management. It is
a general purpose data capturing, monitor and control
architecture that has application is many areas. I have
seen some papers re. usage in Railroads and in (industrial)
plant control systems.

Neuron is their architecture. Cypress, Toshiba, (Mot) do
their own chip design etc and can add features to it. So,
its not even fabless, but a step better.

It also collects for handing out the node ids. These are
48 bits in length, same as an ethernet address which does
not look like a coincidence. Royalty game.

Echelon also has some remote monitor software. It is hard
to tell if this must come from Echelon but doesn't seem that
way. It's basically a rule based engine.

Some of the papers that present LonWorks applications:

ednmag.com

coactive.com

Home market: I am not so sure. If their love for a countless
number of remote controls is any indication, they
love diversity in everything in their homes. Imagine!

So it seems like all signs of a gorilla in making are here.
There is a proprietary, open architecture, with high
switching costs. Now, to see if Echelon follows the path
leading to gorilla-dom and just squanders away the oppty.

These days we price stocks a few years out :-) so while the
game guidelines are the same, the implementation must adapt.
That means buying and selling sooner. All IMHO.
