So Via added 100 MHz, 256K of fast L2, faster FPU, and they ended up with slower processor? Even it this is not final silicon / BIOS, it seems that this chip is going to be a dog.

I don't see any reason to assume this. One bad bit in the BIOS can cause massive performance degredation.

Firing Squad reported that the K7 FPU was slower than Winchip.

Clock for clock, MII is a much faster core than PIII.
