SCUMbria - Re: "I've seen reported several times recently that PIII has a 12 stage pipe and 3 cycle L1 access. Has Intel lengthened the pipeline since the PII days?
If so, PIII may well be able to keep up with Athlon MHz."

Face it - Intel has SURPASSED AMD's AthWiper in MHz.

Intel is shipping 866 MHz Coppermines and has already sampled 1.0 GHz Coppermines to Dell, HP and IBM - all of whom have demonstrted 1 GHz Coppermine systems.

Now, AMD may possibly catch up with Intel again.

But then, down the line, we will have a "rematch" with ThumperTurd vs. Coppermine and/or Willamette.

The reality is that all these CPUs are good and the issue is now who will make the most money from the production and sale of them.

Currently, I have money bet on BOTH of them - but Mr. Stock Market is telling me I should have all my money on Intel.
