You just provided the answer. Athlon ramp has been better than expected so K6 is being pushed out faster. I suppose had AMD known how nicely Athlon was going to ramp, they would have planned for the K6 to disappear a lot faster. The infrastructure issue would still be a question mark to me.

For reasons beyond comprehension to me K6 was being touted as a product to go into 2001 (and more recently into Q3).

When these plans were made, Athlon was still an unknown. Now that it has a proven track record, conversion to has Athlon accelerated.
