Red Yes, Lycos bought Quote.com. There seems to be a perception that QCharts is important to Lycos. If you read the original PR releases when the buyout was announced last year, the opposite would appear to be the case. Lycos is interested in expanding Quote.com's web site to attract eyeballs there to generate advertising revenue. If anything, an argument can be made that QCharts as a product doesn't fit Lycos' business model. Based on discussion I had last week with 2 tech support reps, the problem isn't so much enough servers as the lack of expertise or just plain fumbling around getting the servers integrated. They're trying to bring up a new server farm in Mt. View which will later be shipped off to a new site (as yet not announced). As I wrote on Onelist, my distinct impression is that the technical area is not very well managed and is very much run by the seat-of-the-pants. What planning that does occur naively assumes a perfect world which rarely (ever?) exists in the technical arena. Events which are not tolerated at more mature companies seem to be commonplace at Quote.com. And I doubt QCharts generates enough revenue for Lycos/Quote.com that management is all that concerned about it.
