New Dell Workstation Designed to Drive Demanding Technical Applications
Fastest Available Xeon Processors, Dual PCI Buses, RAMBUS Memory Featured in Dell Precision Workstation 620
ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 28, 2000-- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL - news), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today announced its new high-end Dell Precision(tm) Workstation 620, designed to provide customers with the industry's latest technology to handle the most demanding applications and online collaboration.
The Dell Precision Workstation 620 is Dell's most powerful workstation, and incorporates single or dual Intel Pentium© III Xeon(tm) processors at 733 MHz or 800MHz with a front side bus speed of 133 MHz. Additional features in the Dell Precision Workstation 620 include:
-- Two 64-bit PCI slots at 66 MHz: This technology supports applications which demand a large amount of system I/O bandwidth, including computing clusters, collaboration over the Internet and network attached storage. The Dell Precision Workstation 620 also contains three 32-bit PCI slots at 33 MHz and one combination PCI/RAID slot, for a high level of expandability.
-- Capacity for 4 GB of PC-800 ECC RDRAM (2 GB at launch): The large memory capacity of the Dell Precision Workstation 620 is especially important to customers who manipulate large part files or data sets, including customers in the mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) and electronic design analysis (EDA) markets. In addition, customers will benefit from the system's peak internal memory bandwidth of 3.2 GB per second, which will allow increased headroom as floating point-intensive applications demand more system resources.
-- AGP Pro 4X Graphics: The Dell Precision Workstation 620 offers the choice of a range of graphics adapters, from the dual-monitor-capable Matrox G400 Max to the high-end Intense3D Wildcat 4110 Pro. The Dell Precision Workstation 620 supports graphics adapters of up to 110 watts, which is the maximum power available under the AGP Pro specification.
``The need for powerful workstations continue to grow, especially as customers use the Internet to collaborate on large design and analysis projects,' said Peter Karnazes, general manager, Dell Precision Workstations. ``We designed and certified the new Dell Precision Workstation 620 to handle the increasing demands of applications used by customers from the small office to the enterprise.'
Dell last week announced that it has captured the No. 1 position in both worldwide and U.S. markets for personal workstations for the 1999 calendar year, according to market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC)(1).
Priced beginning at $3,351(2), the Dell Precision Workstation 620 can be configured to user specifications including up to 108 GB(3) of hard disk storage, up to 2 GB of Rambus memory(4) and support for AGP Pro with a choice of graphics cards for exceptional 2D, OpenGL 3D and multi-monitor graphics performance.
Dell Precision Workstations are intended for professional users who demand exceptional performance in the computer-aided design (CAD), digital content creation (DCC), geographic information systems (GIS), computer animation, software development and financial analysis markets.
