SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 29, 2000--

AMCC Joins Other Leading San Diego Companies in
Highlighting the Area's Most
Innovative Science and Technology Developments

Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) (NASDAQ:AMCC), the leader in
high-bandwidth silicon connectivity solutions for the world's optical
networks, will be participating in the Reuben H. Fleet Science
Center's TechnoVation exhibition with a showcase that educates the
public on the evolution of raw material to finished silicon products,
how integrated circuits work, what fiber optics is and a
behind-the-scenes look at the Internet.
"This showcase is a perfect opportunity for technology leaders in
San Diego to give back to the community through a unique, ongoing
educational event," said David Rickey, president and chief executive
officer of AMCC. "There is a wealth of significant innovations
achieved right here in this city, and we're delighted that the
community at large can now, through TechnoVation, gain an
understanding of the enabling technologies that make the Internet what
it is today."
The goal of AMCC's exhibit is to demystify key technological
topics that contribute to the phenomenon of the Internet, and will
consist of four technology stations; the first will focus on the
evolution of raw materials into finished products, the second station
will explain integrated circuits or "chips," and the third and fourth
deal with fiber optics and their role in the Internet.
In collaboration with seven other leading San Diego companies,
AMCC will be a part of the kick-off for the City of San Diego's
"Technology's Perfect Climate" month, part of "San Diego 2000," a
year-long program celebrating the new millennium in San Diego. An
official program of Mayor Susan Golding, "San Diego 2000" will focus
on a major area of life each month.
