Patenting internet business models is a fairly recent development. One that Dorian, no doubt, has read about and decided to try to do himself.

I'm not sure if it is known whether such a patent would withstand a challenge in court.

And of course, in general a patent is no indication that an idea will be profitable. In the case of a business model, I doubt if a patent is even an indication that carrying out the idea in an actual business wouldn't violate the Federal Trade Act or some other law.

A patent indicates only that an idea is novel and therefore may be protected for 17 years.

A patent application, which is what Hitsgalore announced, indicates only that somebody has hired a lawyer and filled out some papers. Nothing more.

I don't doubt that Hitsgalore hired a patent attorney. Probably unrelated to their SLAPP attornies in Florida, though.
