Re: MOT announcement and their statement that "...unlike Qualcomm's high data rate (HDR) proposal, voice and data can co-exist on the same 1X Plus carrier."

Can anyone comment on the technical merits (or demerits) of mixing data and voice on the same carrier? I recall Dr J commenting at some point that he did not think that was a good way to go.

TIA, jack

It has been stated by Dr. J that data and voice shouldn't be mixed. I'm not clear why that is, I would like the ans. to that. Now we have MOT saying it is not only do-able put can be done in an open standard approach. I view MOT's 1x Plus news release to be the most damaging news that I have seen recently, although it appears to be vapor as of now, still, it throws up a road block to QCOM's HDR.

Motorola's 1X Plus proposal builds on many improvements to the existing cdma2000 1X air interface, with the intent of maximizing data throughput.

Does this sound like an overlay to 1X?
