MikeM, from the global stats you provide, it would seem that a north american recognition "that the solution is in front of us when it shows up.", is still a viable question - your pt of view regarding what expressions from CEO's of the major -presumably North american - not withstanding. Regarding the stat of about 200+mm of cisco revenue being only a small part of their 4+billion annual revenue, I wonder, if you were to look at some metric such as $ of revenue per bit/sec/mile what would it look like? Are the big players (infrastructure mfg's (i.e. csco, NT,LU), and or more likely the telco's) actually reaping huge money from sustaining a last mile problem? It feels that way at times. Your main point, that there is huge (trillions of dollars of) infrastucture tied up in copper and older technologies is valid as a statement. However similar "industry anchors" for companies with farms of IBM and Amdahl and Cray mainframes fifteen years ago were expressed the same way when Mr. Gates and co showed up too. Linking to a later post from you... the wireless ofdm (w-ofdm in particular... try www.ofdm.org) is my own biased favourite. 54 Mbps LMDS with deployment costs about that of cellular phone deployment seems like a last mile answer candidate to me. But, I'd still like to hear from others on the parameters that define a "resolved last mile" (wireless or otherwise). cheers! rr
