Probably due to the perception that any Pentium shortage is receding and with it the inventory glut, 64Meg (8Mx8) PC 100 SDRAM rose 10% today to an ASP of $5.18 from Friday's recent low of $4.70, the first price rise in months. I realize it takes more than one point to make a line but the rise is nonetheless encouraging. As usual there is roughly (very roughly) a 10 day lead in MU's price before DRAM turns up (or down).

>>Citing Semiconductor Industry Association figures, he noted that bit consumption in the fourth quarter of 1999 was up only 39% year-over-year, less than half the eight-year average of 81%. <<

would someone please tell this guy that consumption and production are two different things?

consumption (demand) growth is down 50% b/c nobody wants expensive dram. price goes up, demand growth goes way down.

now, be a good little company and let loose all that excss inventory like you did the last time dram was $4 a pop! ;-)
