Did you hear him comparing his trip to Pat Robertson's front lawn this morning to Clinton's repudiation of Sister Souljah?

McCain aides compared the attack to a 1992 move by President Clinton criticizing rap singer Sister Souljah, a move where Clinton cast himself as a moderate.

Unfortunately, I'm willing to bet that with this latest round of fire from McCain, he has not only doomed himself, but Bush's campaign as well, elimating any chance for the Reps to make it into the oval office (that good ole republican self-destruct mechanism). It was a schrewd political tactic. He knows that the only way he'll win is if he can convince republicans that Bush is unelectable, making himself the candidate by default. So he attacks Bush in such a way that will scare the beegeezus out of the dems and even put some fear in moderate republicans about Bush's loyalties to the RR.

This might be enough to convince more practical republicans to vote for McCain, thinking that he could swing the indies and mod dems and actually get elected. However, my gut feeling is that the RR may be too powerful within the Rep party and that McCain may have bitten off more than he could chew in taking them on. Either way it sure makes this a much more interesting race than any I've seen in recent years. It takes a lot of brass to do what he did, not sure whether or not it was wise or how much less of a respectable guy that makes him, but he certainly knows how to roll the dice.
