Re '96 Everest climb, yes many issues here. Yours is right on from what I know. She probably shouldn't have even been there IMO. There is/was also the financial incentive to shuttle people up and down the peak for $70K+ regardless of the persons climbing skills in order to capture the fee.

But I still think many avid outdoors persons could use the G phone. I know many people who do not even like to camp because they get scared, perhaps the phone will make them feel better.

PS- If you read the book, the real hero (and climbing god) is Anatoli Boukreev. He saved lives and nearly summited 3 times over that 2-3 day time period from either base camp or camp IV.

Also, I read Into Thin Air and have a signed copy of Breashears Everest, A mountain without Mercy.
