One thing to keep in mind, MOT has always been aggressive when it comes to quoting performance measures. When I think back to MOT's announcement of first generation handsets, it always seemed strange that the talk time and standby times were so impressive. I always had the feeling that they were quoting talk times and standby times in "optimal" (zero capacity) environments.

On the other hand, QCOM has always set a standard of conservative and responsible measurements. Witness the outstanding reputation the company has enjoyed with it's customers in Korea, Japan, and the US. The widespread support of CDMA & HDR is no longer limited to the Q. Their licensing of CDMA & HDR has already carried the support of every leading CDMA manufacturer in the key CDMA markets.

From the standpoint of the wireless service co's, the documentation of CDMA for 3G based wireless systems is an inevitable solution. No longer is QCOM stranded as the sole voice of CDMA from the equipment side. LU, NT, Samsung, ERICY, Kyocera, and others are now in full support of the superior technology they can present to wireless voice and internet based customers. Is there any question how VOD will accomplish a harmonized global infrastructure?
