With the January effect now history, we have to figure out what to do with all of these little $2 stocks. Typically, I am a stock snob about price. If it is only a couple of smackers or less I am not interested. But this year there are so many of these little guys around that we have to line them up, make judgments, and figure out if any of them can come back.

We have to be systematic about it. With the help of my Bloomberg machine, I ran a screen of all stocks trading below $2 that once traded above $20 (don't want penny stocks by design) that are currently trading below or near cash. When I got rid of all the stocks that have filed for bankruptcy, been scheduled for delisting or shifted to the bulletin board (don't know many that ever come back from that) I had only a handful of stocks left, just enough for a mini-profile of each one. First, take a look at this larger, summary chart:

These stocks have all had the stuffings kicked out of them. They now lack any organized coverage and there are no objective standards to evaluate them. That's the bad news. The good news is that we have 200,000 active readers who can help us make a few decisions. We all know that online chat about stocks stopped working a year ago because it became so unfocused and vituperative. It didn't have to be that way, but none of the chat-meisters could afford the oversight to make it work. Not here. I want to find the best of these stocks and I want your help. If you know something about them, email me and I will pool all of our resources to come up with which of these little specs might be worth our time and money. You tell me, I do the processing and hand off the results to you. Let's call it chat with a brain. Please send your ideas about these stocks to twodollarstocks@thestreet.com. No further ado, here are the stars of the screen:
