Talk about the millionaire next door... :0) Rather than sell, I decided to contribute to the wealth effect instead, and left the money in the options while splurging on my new desktop replacement system. For those who have been following this saga with bated breath, here's what I finally ended up buying: Dell Inspiron 5000 notebook Pentium III 650mh with SpeedStep 192MB SDRAM 12GB 9.5MM Hard Drive 15" SXGA+ screen Internal 56k v.90 modem 8X DVD/SW drive (cdrom and floppy included) ATI 8MB Video Card Internal 100MB Zip drive Windows 98 2nd edition Puddlelights plus Port Replicator with Ethernet connection Bell Atlantic DSL service to come soon Harmon Kardon speakers Microsoft Natural Pro Keyboard Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer UMAX Astra 4000U scanner Monitor to come (looking closely at a 21" ViewSonic) Total weight of notebook alone, ~6.5 lbs Total cost of system, [see ELON today] YIPPEE!!! It's my first really snazzy tech purchase in ages. (Tekgirl, being a responsible spouse of the female persuasion, frowns on such things and is making me pay for it out of my account. Can anybody spell "margin"?) It should arrive in a couple of weeks, and already I can't wait. If it's not as fun as I hope I will post something very nasty in this space.
