Hi Jill, I have looked at both threads-some good stuff there. That t2 is a busy guy-either he doesn't sleep, doesn't have to work, or is extremely productive (maybe all three). I don't see anything which changes my mind, however. I never intended to be critical of Corning as a company, BTW. I think it is a fine company and I would not quarrel with anyone wanting to buy or own it. I just find it hard to get enthused about it. When Kevin joined Uniphase, it was a small supplier of industrial gas lasers. He was able to get it public (barely) with a 2nd tier underwriter, raising less than $30 million, and then bet it all on the acquisition of the components business from United Technologies at a time when no one saw this opportunity coming. I believe companies whose visionary is still at the helm have a real advantage over those who are run by, well, caretakers. Corning has been around since just after the invention of the wheel, and by all accounts have a good management team (I assume Gerry Fine is still running the Photonics Division...?), but I am not as sold on their ability to be as quick as JDSU, especially since they have to divide their attention among markets which have nothing to do with Optical Components. So I wouldn't sell my JDSU for GLW, but I certainly wouldn't fight with someone who did. If I didn't own either, it would be a different story, since JDSU is well-discovered already and perhaps some aren't aware of GLW's optics business. Even then I would be more likely to want to find a good JDSU entry point if/when they screw up the integration of one of these acquisitions (seems like it is bound to happen sooner or later). Now if GLW spun off the Photonics Division as a separate company, or maybe merged it into SDL......
