Been a while since I looked at this. As I recall there would be few if any benefits. The small business deduction which lowers effective tax rates on the first couple of hundred thousand applies only to "active business income" and specifically excludes "income from property" i.e. stocks, bonds etc.

I recall there is an exception to this for legit investment businesses (maybe a venture capital firm?) which must have more than 5 full time employees. I suspect that lets you out unless you have a lot of unemployed children that you want to support.

That is my recollection. Perhaps some tax advisors or accountants can confirm this or point out other non-tax benefits.
