Unfortunately it's more complicated than that because of the rules on offsetting positions. As I recall it makes a difference if the calls are deep in the money when you first write them, and also there is some stuff about continuing to hold the underlying stock position for some period after the end of the tax year.

The CBOE site has a several page write up of the rules and interpretations - I recall looking at it once and gagging.
