OT speculation: --Jeff, excellent point, however I do think the humans are running the (larger) show.

I think the rotation to mid-cap is largely a human-oid precipitated event. Personally, I point the finger to the INDEX phenomenon. Not only is *new money* gravitating to mid-cap tech , but I believe that *existing money* from the average Joe-6-pack investor is switching INDEX funds. I believe that they are switching from Dow , S&P INDEX funds TO the mid-cap hi-tech INDEX stuff. Since Index funds by definition carry very little cash, they must liquidate positions when they get redemption requests. I think this is why the Dow and S& P Index funds are getting hammered--Index fund redemptions. And likewise, as money flows into the mid-cap tech index funds....those porfolio managers must SPEND those assests to keep the fund 'INDEXED'. And as you know, there is just a finite universe of great companies to buy in the mid-cap arena :-)
