Is there a method to this madness?? The Company's financial results for the fourth quarter were also significantly impacted by a tax adjustment to increase the valuation allowance on potential tax benefits realizable on losses in the current and prior years, including those tax benefits recognized in the first nine months of 1999. While the benefit of these losses of approximately $38 million will still be available to the Company to reduce future taxable income, the Company has taken this approach for accounting purposes due to recent losses. This decision will, however, benefit tax provisions on future profitability.
