OT: It just dawns on me that the comparison vs. your .20 - .39 tax on the dollar cap. gains would be:
In Can. you'd declare .66 for each dollar of cap. gains and it would be added to your taxable income. If your income was in the top marginal tax bracket, you'd pay 51 % tax on that. Conclusion .....
Alabama
under 1 yr. cap gain tax 39%
over 1 yr. cap. gain tax 20%
Canada
Any length of time cap. gain tax 33.7 % ( and less if your overall income is more modest)
(.66 x's 51 )
