I have a question about IPO's in general

How do they allocate shares? If I request up to say 1000 shares is it typical that I would get 100? 500? all 1000?

I don't have the cash to participate, but a friend of mine has a Fidelity account and has requested a share allocation.

Just wondering what the process is...

Thanks in advance
