JMO, but my belief is that the 6 month "hold" period before the PALM dividend is to allow COMS other holdings, new products and affiliates to "mature" more. The COMS price may dip a little at the dividend date, but I believe that price will be much higher than it is today..

Bullish, yes, but hey, I've been in this a year.. :-)

>>Usually in a spin off the price of the company goes down by a certain percentage. Doesn't anybody think the price of 3com will drop by the percentage of the Palm Pilot spin off?

Now there's a novel thought. Since the increased value of COMS stock is being driven by the intrinsic value of PALM stock that each COMS share represents, I think it's safe to extrapolate that COMS share price will decrease in value relative the the value of PALM's share price on the date that it goes ex-distribution. Of course, the owner of said COMS share will also own a prorated share of PALM, in theory making it a revenue neutral transaction.

>>And David Lawrence, I don't need a smart condescending answer.

You reap what you sew.

Oh, and by the way, they've dropped the "Pilot" name - they're just plain ole Palm now. That was so people wouldn't (purportedly) confuse it with the writing instrument of the same name. Lawyers!
