OK, I will describe it as best I can, but realize that the commercial was about 1/3 over before I realized it was a Globalstar ad. It took me a minute to get oriented. You can imagine my astonishment.
The commercial is beautifully filmed... you have to give them that. And the background music is uplifting. So this sets the mood of the commercial nicely. It's very feel-good.
The camera cuts from individual to individual... different races... different places. Sometimes the camera is above the earth floating over someone and panning past them. Sometimes it's just a cut from one person and place to another.
One is a Brazilian boy talking on a fixed phone. You can tell where he is because there is a flag in the room. One is a woman who looks like an American in a foreign country.
She appears to be involved in some kind of construction or engineering project. Again, I did not realize it was a G* commercial until I noticed the antennae of the phones. One particularly nice shot is from the air over a boat in what looks like the Amazon river. The camera comes closer to someone talking on a phone. There are more shots.
The voice over talks about being able to communicate anywhere at any time. I wish I could remember more, but the commercial does not tell you what it is about until the very end which actually is a fairly dramatic effect. But, because it was the first time I'd seen it this meant that, as I said, I didn't really start concentrating on it until it dawned on me what it was that I was seeing.
At the end the camera pans away from the earth into space and as the voice-over says "Globalstar", a Globalstar satellite sails by in front of the planet. Then the screen cuts to white, the Globalstar logo appears and the voice-over: "Globalstar: Above and Beyond".
It's pretty nice.

Qualcomm Demos Internet Access Via Globalstar
Source: Newsbytes

Qualcomm [NASDAQ:QCOM] said it will stage a demonstration of Internet access and packet data capability via the Globalstar satellite service at the CTIA Wireless 2000 show when it opens today in New Orleans.

The telecommunications hardware vendor said that it has been working on packet data transmissions across the Globalstar network for some time and, if all goes well, it plans to start commercial field trials of the service this summer.

Qualcomm said that the new service will allow users in virtually any populated area in the world to communicate with their corporate data networks and access the Internet, or to send and receive e-mail messages.

Internet access can be made by connecting a Qualcomm GSP-1600 mobile phone to a laptop computer to access e-mail and transmit information from virtually any location at speeds of up to 9,600 bits per second (bps), the firm said.

Qualcomm Wireless President Jerry Beckwith said that his firm has been conducting packet data tests over the Globalstar network through its San Diego test facility for several months and is now ready to demonstrate the technology to the public.
