Robertson Stephens Analyst Gives Strong Financial Outlook on Semiconductor Industry

Business Editors
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 29, 2000--
- Arun Veerappan Speaks to Investors at Firm's Tech Conference,
Stresses Communications and Analog Sectors as Key Driver of
Semiconductor Stock Performance -

Robertson Stephens Senior Semiconductor Devices Analyst Arun Veerappan today addressed an audience of institutional investors on the financial health of the semiconductor industry, predicting continued growth for semiconductor stocks, particularly in the communications and analog sectors.
Speaking at the investment bank's seventeenth annual Technology Conference in San Francisco, Veerappan said, "Over the past year, the combination of robust demand and tightening capacity has been a boon for semiconductor stocks, particularly in the communications arena. Importantly, investors increasingly view communications semiconductor companies as a safe way to invest in the Internet phenomenon, and consequently, the communications sector has become the growth engine for the entire semiconductor industry."
Veerappan pointed to analog stocks as an important source of past and future growth: "In our view, the analog sector is the steadiest sector in the semiconductor arena, with a tremendous amount of profitability over the past 10 years. We live in an analog world, and analog companies have reaped the benefits from this ubiquitous need for their products. Clearly, analog is where the money is and will continue to be."
This year's technology investor conference, being held today through Thursday, features Robertson Stephens research analysts, as well as CEOs and CFOs from more than 400 leading technology companies, together representing more than $3 trillion in market capitalization.
