2/28/00 - Taiwan rules U.S. makers not dumping DRAM

TAIPEI, Feb 29 (Reuters) - A Taiwan tribunal has rejected local complaints that U.S. microchip makers dumped dynamic random access memory chips in Taiwan and said calls for punitive tariffs were not merited, the economics ministry said on Tuesday.

The trade body's decision follows a similar finding in November by the U.S. International Trade Commission, which rejected U.S. makers' allegations that Taiwan manufacturers were dumping DRAM in the U.S. market.

In November, Taiwan had imposed a four-month, 61.85 percent anti-dumping tax on U.S. microchip maker Micron Technology Inc (MU.N) and two other unspecified U.S. DRAM makers amid complaints they were selling DRAM in Taiwan at below cost.
