Monica,

Market wants cheap 500 to 700s

The key word is cheap. The frequency range keeps changing.

Right now, you can get either ~500 MHz CPUs cheaply (Celeron, K6), but there are no cheap CPUs in the 500 - 700 range. The low end Athlons are fairly cheap ( < $200 ), but AMD seems to be limiting the quantities of anything under 650 MHz. 650 is still fairly cheap (around $200), about the same price as PIII 500E.

Doesn't this offset AMD's advantages over Intel? Reportedly, Intel is delivering Pentium IIIs quite well at speeds below 750 MHz.

Monica,

Previously, Intel was not able to keep up with demand at this level, causing GTW to resume a relationship with AMD. What has changed?

What effect will this limited demand have on the Athlon CPUs coming from Dresden? Aren't they all supposed be faster than 1 GigaHertz?

RE Dresden, I haven't heard that. As for product demand, the sweet spot right now is 500-700 due to pricing...if AMD sells 700's to 900's at the same price as the 500's to 700's, product demand should rise to the occasion.

I didn't write 'Limited OEM ...' ML did. I posted the analysis without commentary. I considered it contemptable in terms of serious analysis. There are holes all through the pubilcation. Shoddy work. What I expect from ML.

I would hope that all the production from Dresden is *FASTER*, not in Hz., but in processing power, than the stuff out of FAB25.
