Geof, why do you see it as an either/or

You pose a very good question-in truth, until last week I don't think I ever seriously considered buying GLW, and over the last few days I guess I have in my bumbling way been trying to understand (and articulate in public, never a good idea) why not. I think the real answer is personal, not financial. I just don't buy stock in companies as big as GLW. I may be fortunate enough to own a few, but they didn't start out that way in my portfolio. I like to know what my companies do (and why), who their customers and competitors are, and to be able to recognize the CEO from across a semi-crowded room. And I also don't believe in a lot of diversification in the stocks I own directly. I would rather put a lot of eggs in one basket and then watch the basket carefully.

By the way, thanks for talking me out of buying the TERN puts (which is why I came to this thread to begin with). Sound advice!
