No, that would be Paul Volker; who raised interest rates in '80-'81 and, as a result, broke the back of a long, pernicious inflation and caused Carter to lose the election (conjecture, but a widespread one). More conjecture: it was painful, but it did the trick; something which Carter's sweaters and Ford's WIN buttons were both unable to achieve.

I think he's a hero.
