I knew he had been involved with some recent nominees, I guess just not current. On the paintings, I think it may be true that you cannot get it without some comparable experience. When Matisse died, Picasso lamented that now he would have no one with whom he could truly discuss color....
I love Cezanne! Ironically, I went to the big Philadelphia retrospective, and was disappointed. I have seen so much at the various museums, and the exhibit was organized to show "development", rather than masterpieces, so some of the best paintings in this country didn't make the cut. According to several modern artists, including Picasso and Matisse, Cezanne was the main transitional figure and inspiration from Impressionism to Modernism, particularly Fauvism and Cubism........
