ted,

re:"Steve, unfortunately AMD and Intel are getting stupid."

I see your point, I was going to get a 600 cheap, but now if AMD wants to give me a 700 or 750 for the same price?

Possibly we are all waiting to see if the Dresden flood hits before the "ramp is fine but we need a new step" intel flood?

If Intel trips one more time, it may get real ugly on the message boards. monica will bring friends,
:o)

Ted, RE: "unfortunately AMD and Intel are getting stupid"

You are probably right. Intel may be cutting prices in an attempt to keep AMD "on the edge" of profitability. On the other hand, AMD will do about anything to gain market share from Intel.

If Intel and AMD were less competitive for market share, it would be A HUGE benefit for the shareholders.

But when you read this thread and the Intel thread, I think it probably reflects the attitudes of the folks running both companies. I can't foresee a less competitive marketplace in the future.

Too bad. The real competition for both companies will be other devices that can access the Internet and perform basic PC functions. By spending most of their energy (and some of the shareholders profits) fighting each other, they may be bypassing the opportunity to jointly promote the PC as the "Internet Device" into the future.

Random thoughts,
