Nice post. I'm sympathetic to Bush along exactly the same lines. Poor W. Nothing wrong with true "compassionate conservatism". If only he had more of the right stuff, intellectually and charisma-wise. He's just not up to it. The lightweight issue won't go away.

I like your phrase "neoconservative political theologians". Bush's statement that "Too often, my party has confused the need for limited government with a disdain for government itself." applies to this board. They should listen to their own leader. Then again, he should lead better so that they would listen.
