Zoom Utilizes Intersil's PRISM Chips in New Wireless Access Point

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 29 2000 2:18 PM EST

PALM BAY, Fla., Feb 29, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Intersil (Nasdaq:ISIL), the world's leading developer of silicon
technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), today announced that its PRISM technology has been
incorporated into a new Access Point with ISDN routing from Zoom Telephonics (Nasdaq:ZOOM).

The ZoomAir(TM) AP128 Access Point (AP) is the first product release in a new family of Zoom products that
distributes high-speed Internet connections to multiple computers using WLAN technology. The new Zoom AP128
began shipping last month. Targeting the SOHO and consumer markets, the product features benefits that include
ease and economy of installation, simple relocation, scalability and mobility.

The ZoomAir AP128 provides users with wireless access to any existing Ethernet network, while extending the
peer-to-peer wireless network connectivity range from 300 to 600 feet and enabling wireless roaming capabilities
between multiple access points. Shared Internet access over wired or wireless LANs is another key feature of the
ZoomAir AP128, and is enabled through an integrated ISDN/IDSL router.

"Intersil is pleased to be working with Zoom to bring wireless networking to a broad range of end users," said Larry
Ciaccia, vice president and general manager of Intersil's PRISM Wireless Products business. "We're confident our
partnership is a winning formula for taking these products to the rapidly growing SOHO and consumer markets, taking
into account Intersil's strong expertise in wireless networking technology and Zoom's very strong channel presence."

"The ZoomAir AP128 is an example of our strong commitment to the integration of Internet access and
easily-installed local area networks, " said Frank Manning, Zoom's president. "Wireless networking is important to
this strategy and Intersil's innovative PRISM chip set will enable us to achieve our goal of providing outstanding
wireless solutions to our end-users, value-added resellers, access providers and high-volume retailers."

Adoption of PRISM WLAN Technology Since introducing the PRISM WLAN chip set in 1996, over fifty companies
have incorporated PRISM chips in more than 100 product designs. PRISM technology is designed to comply with the
IEEE's 802.11 global standard and Intersil is a founding sponsor of the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance
(WECA), whose "Wi-Fi" brand will ensure compatibility between various 802.11-based systems. Intersil has a
continuing program to rapidly introduce better performing, more highly integrated generations of PRISM chip sets and
supporting design tools. PRISM chips are used in WLAN systems from industry-leading companies including Nokia,
Siemens, Compaq, 3Com, Nortel, Samsung, Dell, Zoom, Cisco/Aironet, and SpectraLink.

About Intersil Intersil Corporation uses semiconductor expertise to enable highly integrated voice, data and video
communications. Intersil's integrated communications portfolio includes PRISM(R) Wireless Local Area Network
(WLAN) chip sets that enable mobile connectivity products for the home and office; analog and mixed-signal
