Re: "Elmer, if amd did shut up, why did AMD take on Willy with its Thunderbird, and guess who won the award for best processor at Cebit. Both were there, both were judged, Athlon won best of show. Who shut who up in their first head to head competition."

hmaly, let me explain what I meant so there'll be no misunderstand. Many people believe AMD has much higher speed versions of Athlon that they are holding back because there's no reason to bring them out yet, but any time AMD wants to they can simply turn on the tap and out comes Gigahertz or higher Athlons. As you know AMD demo'd a 1.1 GHz Thunderbird the week before Intel showed the Gigahertz Cumine. Many thought AMD could have shown a higher speed version but was waiting for Intel to show their hand so AMD could "trump" them with a still higher speed Athlon. AMD has prided themselves in being able to beat Intel's top speed so it seemed like this was another chance for AMD to embarrass Intel. When Willamette was shown at 1.5 GHz AMD couldn't match it. They had shot their wad at 1.1 GHz and had nothing better to show. It was put up or shupup and they couldn't put up.

The fact that AMD won awards at CeBit is a feather for their cap but doesn't make their top speed processor samples any faster.

All IMO.
