Bearshark, all conflicts are economic driven (including Kosovo) forget ideology.

For China taking over Taiwan will result with China being a power player in the Hi Tech industry and command a big chunk of the semi - Telecom,PC, Servers parts industry.

This coupled with the huge potential markets within China it makes a lot of sense for China to take over Taiwan. The cost of a friction or even war will be very small in comparison of the economic benefits.

Now China is gambling on US election and lack of willingness to go to war, based on the mistakes in Iraq, Kosovo and Grozny.

Their gambling may pay off handsomely and if I would be in their shoes would think the same way.
