Powerful New Product and Resource Program Help Application Service Providers
Reduce Total Business Costs and Accelerate Time-to-Market
INTERNET ASP FORUM, ANAHEIM, Calif., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- SCO (Nasdaq: SCOC) today announced Tarantella ASP Edition, the latest product in its line of award-winning web-enabling software the delivers applications from any server to any user, anywhere in the world. SCO also unveiled Tarantella ASP Connect, a resource program to help OEMs, ASPs, ISVs, resellers and others become successful in the Application Service Provider (ASP) market.
Tarantella ASP Edition introduces a utility-style, "pay-as-you-go" licensing and pricing model that provides ASPs with a cost-effective way to manage dynamic environments which can vary by hundreds or thousands of users per day. The product also features usage monitoring and billing capabilities, developed specifically to allow ASPs to monitor, analyze and report actual application usage to their customers.

ASPs Applaud Tarantella
"We evaluated both Citrix MetaFrame and Tarantella to provide the infrastructure to run our ASP business," said Chris Clabaugh, CEO Allegrix, Inc. "We chose Tarantella as the best solution because it significantly simplifies the management process. With Tarantella no software is installed on to either the clients or the application servers, minimizing management needs of the server and virtually eliminating the need for client-side management, helping us lower the costs associated with running our business."
"We chose Tarantella over Citrix MetaFrame for its high levels of reliability and manageability," said Pelle Axeland, senior executive vice president at Runaware. "Tarantella will help us improve our time-to-market with the latest applications. Since Tarantella doesn't need to be installed on the application server or the client, we can quickly and easily deliver access to the latest releases of applications, which is crucial to the success of our business."
Tarantella ASP Edition
Tarantella ASP Edition combines the powerful Tarantella web-enabling software with a comprehensive set of product training, support, automatic maintenance upgrades and other services. This ensures ASPs are up-to-date with the most current features to centrally manage and deploy applications over the web. Experts from the SCO Professional Services team are available to help ASPs perform a needs analysis, and offer advice on datacenter design and optimization plus application integration and customization. These services allow SCO to offer a complete Tarantella solution for ASPs, and help service providers create the best-possible offering for their customers.
Tarantella ASP Connect
Tarantella ASP Connect provides a technical and educational framework to accelerate the growth of the ASP market. This program brings OEMs, ISVs, ASPs and resellers together to create and deliver solutions. Members of the Tarantella ASP Connect program have access to password-protected web pages, and can attend events, seminars and other activities designed to help them use the ASP business model to increase the value and content of their product offering.
"Tarantella ASP Connect is just what is needed in the ASP market," said Steve Shoaf, ASP Program Director at Informix Corporation. "SCO is leading the way for ISVs to move into this emerging market. We look forward to working closely with SCO to help ISVs and resellers evolve to the ASP business model."

The Tarantella ASP Connect program begins during April 2000, and Tarantella ASP Edition will be available May 2000. Tarantella ASP Edition includes an unlimited user license, plus support and software maintenance.
