Kemble - re: I believe that there is a big plan

I thought CPQ had a "big plan" in 1997... I was wrong.

I have faith that DELL management will deliver on the reduced expectations they have set. I don't believe there is any "big plan" with IBM - nothing in it for IBM, and they are not famous for philanthropy. I have seen a lot of moves by IBM, both open and somewhat hidden, but NONE that would indicate that they are planning anything special with DELL. I suspect that the move of Vanderslice to DELL was the signal of the final collapse of any "behind the scenes" opportunity with IBM.

As far as the rest of the "initiatives" you have been proposing, without substance these are just pipe dreams. Others like GTW are actually executing and we don't even get talk from DELL, let alone action.

WebHosting is big but also a target of every big player. CPQ has done 10 times the investment in web hosting in 1999 that DELL has done, DELL continues to use a leveraged model where Intel does the heavy lifting. An OK strategy to preserve ROIC by keeping "I" small, but not a breakout growth strategy.

re: "This is just the beginning" - unfortunately, the movie has been running for 18 months and we are still at the beginning.

Hi Kemble!

RE: "Good point...Leigh what it really boils down to is trust...Kevin Rollins last summer told everyone that "you'll be sorry if you sell DELL"....Michael has announced that "2000 WILL BE A SUPER YEAR FOR DELL"...I'm sure the critics (shorts) find this easy to attack since it has been flat...but, the reality is the time frame is nothing that anyone long on this stock should be concerned about...Yeah, we stepped on a bunch of land mines last year...IMO nothing that they really could have controlled...Risk is inherent in everything you invest in...I'm in DELL because of the trust I have developed in this company...There are thousands of DELL employees that work every day knowing their shares can appreciate with the growth of their company....The management knows that drawing future employees to DELL is imperative to their continued success...The stock plan makes all this possible ....I'm quite sure that the plans of DELL for the future contain continued growth far and above what they talked the analysts down to at the end of the fourth quarter...The opportunities are numerous...The WEBHOST IMO is huge...This photo is just beginning to develop....Let's keep our patience and recall that we were spoiled for so long...The plans have got to be huge...The planning period will not be a short one...If anything ...If you are doing your homework...This is the time to BUY DELL..."Best, Kemble

I agree with you! :) A Strong Buy reiteration from me! :)Leigh
