You raise a good point. We should look for companies designing RF accessories using WAP so we can use consoles like remotes. I can find only InterAct and Mad Catz in this area. Infra red is not much use because it needs a direct line of sight and, unlike PC games, consoles are used by several kids at a time and they would block other players.

Alex, Can't say i've ever heard
of "Virtual On" or seen any info on it
in my net travels. Is it a MP game?.

Don't know much about it....after I posted that I did read an article waxing on and on about how great the game is....

IMO, I'm still a little skeptical about the viability of the web appliance/tv browser model. But the psx2 is still very impressive, especially at the anticipated price. Throw in the DVD player and it becomes a no brainer.

As far as MP over the net....it doesn't seem very flexible, but if it is really just dial-up gaming with a pre-determined service...maybe it would work. I guess I still see consoles as complements to pcs.

Saw Vampire is almost out to beta testers. Not much other news. Yeah, sector sucks. But I'm beyond caring at this point. I've decided to start accumulating again at these levels. Maybe I'm crazy....

>>Virtual COn?

Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram turned many heads when Japanese gaming bible Weekly Famitsu gave it 39/40. While this was for a game that had no release schedule outside of Japan, the high score made many re-think this strategy, not to mention making this a red hot title for importers.

The basic premise for those not familiar with VO:OT is that you take control of a gun-toting-robot and take on a similarly equipped friend in an arena. The original Virtual On is best known in the UK for the two-seater arcade machines and dual-joystick control method.

Japanese Dreamcast owners have the advantage of a high speed cable network that the Dreamcast can access, this same arrangement is currently being implemented in the US. This enables people to play VO:OT, (and indeed other multiplayer games) head to head over the net. Proving that in some countries, Sega's promise of online multiplayer games via console is reality, shame it's not here.

After much deliberation it looks like the US may actually see VO:OT, though much of it will have to be re-written because if the differences in network code for the two countries. Unfortunately the project will have to be passed on to third party developers, meaning that features such Dual-Stick control and the all important network play may be ditched.

US gamers may never be able to play VO:OT in it's full glory. As for the UK however, it's not a concern, as VO:OT is definitely not being released here at all in any way shape or form. Apparently due to the fact that the original Virtual On, which was released on the Saturn, did not perform well...<<

Virtual On is comparable to Mechwarrior on drugs. It's a two player arcade game where to pilots control "robots" in a virtual 3D battleground. It's pretty much a fighting game. If you ever scene japanese Giant Robot Anime (eg. neon genesis evangelion), this is pretty much it. It's a GREAT fast paced game that rewards speed, agility, and strategy. Each robot has specific capabilities and weaknesses. I've spent more than my fair share of dollars on this machine when it hit the states. The game series has a huge following in Japan, but unfortunately, very few people here in the states are willing to pay the 1.50 to play the game in the arcades. However, IMO, unless a compatible joystick is released with the game (it's a two joystick system), it's going to be very hard to "capture" the original feel.
