Broadband Access Systems, Inc. Receives $5 Million in Funding from Vulcan Ventures, Inc.

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 2000--Broadband Access Systems,
Inc., the industry's first company exclusively focused on providing cable access solutions for the
deployment of value-added data and voice services, announced today that it has received $5 million of
funding from Vulcan Ventures, Inc.
Vulcan Ventures Inc., the investment organization of Paul G. Allen has invested $5 million in
Broadband Access Systems to be used primarily for operating expenses. This latest funding is part of
a mezzanine round of financing in which Broadband Access Systems received $45 million from
various investors. This brings the total capital raised to over $72 million.
"Paul Allen and Vulcan Ventures have provided billions of dollars in funding for the cable
industry," said Abbot Gilman, co-founder and chief operating officer of Broadband Access Systems.
