US House Republican has bill to cut OPEC aid, arms

WASHINGTON, March 1 (Reuters) - The chairman of the U.S. House International Relations Committee said Wednesday he would introduce legislation to cut off U.S. assistance and arms sales to OPEC and other oil-exporting nations which engage in oil price fixing.

The bill ``will require the president to cut off assistance and arms sales to those members of OPEC and other major net oil exporting countries which are determined to be engaged in oil price fixing to the detriment of the U.S. economy,' said Rep. Benjamin Gilman, a New York Republican, at a hearing he called on U.S. oil policy.
