That is exactly correct. SAP has simply said that DB2 is now its "preferred" database. In most cases, SAP is being installed at shops that already have an enterprise-wide database standard. Where that standard is Oracle, the SAP installation will run on Oracle. I doubt that SAP is doing much business where they sell both SAP R/3 *and* DB2.
