If CDMA turns down a non-Q-proprietary road in future, Q valuations must be rewritten. It's tough to tell since their are so few details in MOT's press release....but I think that you are mistaken on what MOT announced. It looks like 1xrttPlus is simply a modification to 1xrtt....this is NOT a fundamentally new way to do CDMA. Look at W-CDMA....they changed various parameters (non-synchrounous, different chip rate...plus a whole lot more) but the basic operation was still the same (i think that soft-handoff and power control are two key Qualcomm innovations). Thus they still needed Q's patents....I think it will be the same for 1xrttPlus. I would rather have had ERICY develop something like this since they probably pay a higher royalty than MOT....but this isnt teribble news. Notice that MOT didnt say that they could do this with W-CDMA....or worse GPRS. The real downside is if the FUD created by this announcement slows down HDR..... Slacker
