I've never checked for check writing capability, but DLJDirect allows you to withdraw cash from a margin balance position.

Accutrade will allow you debit your "available funds" account via a checking account or debit card, they sweep this account daily. You can not draw on the "buying power"

I believe Schwab does. My charities stock account is through them and they sent me a check book when I opened the account. Pretty cool! My DLJ account doesn't offer that as far as I know.

Let's see.... the internet has done away with the need for most stock brokers and now we are working on getting rid of the banks! Next to go will be the underwriters. Why bother? Just publish your material on the net - with the proper government checks and balances for proper reporting - and let the people decide. Do you get the idea that a whole 'class' of 'middlemen' that used to get 'fat' off of our $$ is starting to disappear as the distance between the buyer and the seller is getting compressed via the net.

I am using ACCUTRADE as do several on this board. They are easy to get things completed. You can go online and get a application send in $5000 and they will open an account. You get all the 1st class frills.
