Yes, scholar and supreme political analyst Michael Barone mentioned on FoxNews last night that Maureen Dowd represents the extreme viewpoint on Bush. He noted how hysterical Dowd had become and how she was a proxy for the establishment media's overt dislike of Bush.

I want to make clear yet again though that I've never thought for a moment that Bush himself is a bigot of any kind. My charge has always been that he is not the leader on this and other issues that we need. McCain has self-destructed playing the religious card. It just distracted everyone from what matters. It has not been his finest hour, and highlights his flaws.

Having said all that, many here find it convenient to quickly forget how very dirty Bush and Co. got in South Carolina, and how they went dirty first, and shamelessly. You all who speak of Bush's fine character--this does not demonstrate to me Bush's fine character if character has to do also with grace under pressure and standing up for what's right when the going gets tough. I see a fundamentally weak man. He's got "good character" in a Sunday-school kind of way--it's easy to be nice and smile and make all the ladies in church pat your head and say what a nice-mannered cute boy you are--Bush is very good at that.

Eddie Haskell (GWB) succeeded in suckering Wally (JM) into a mud fight and Wally (with a little James Dean thrown in) got nasty in return, now Eddie is all "It's so nice to see you again, Mrs. Cleaver". Remember that unctuous, ingratiating weasel-smirk Eddie had? LOL!
