Tench.

You mean AMD already taped-out their 64-bit Sledgehammer back in mid-1999 and is currently shipping thousands of samples to OEM partners as we speak?

I don't know about that. I just went to Fry's the other day, and counted the number of Intel's and AMD's 64bit CPU's. I got equal number on both sides.

Oh, yes, that reminds me. The other day, when I was testing my new product (btw, I am an OEM as well - that's my night job).

This product is a server, based on the Merced CPU. It runs only at 400 MHz, a little slower than my Celeron, but that's not really the worst problem. The problem I am having right now is that when I turn it on, I get this message:

"Operating system not found. Please insert the disk with the operating system and press any key to continue"

I read all of Intel's documentation, and they don't have a solution. The tech support told me they will ship the product anyway, and that the next stepping should fix this problem.

I asked him when the next stepping is going to come out, and he told me that they don't comment on announced products.
