I can't believe you don't get it.

The purpose of a consumer level product is to demonstrate the technology. It doesn't even mean that the product has to be sold directly to consumers. It means the product has to be visible to the end users of the underlying technology. The end user product, the visible part of the underlying technology, has to be exciting enough for these end users to want to have your companies underlying technology and products.

Microsoft only really took off financially when it provided productivity tools that went on top of its OS. They practically gave away the OS infrastructure to obtain market share.

Novell needs a compelling product for end users. It doesn't have to be targeted on the consumer market. IT can be any compelling product based upon any of Novell's many infrastructure technologies that appeals to end users as a solution to their needs. Wheteher those end users are in the corporation or on the internet is not as important as creating a compelling product.

Blank out the word consumers and substitute the words end user.

CSCO is not a software company. Dirct and even indirect comparisons do not work.

Hi George,

I'm at least pleasantly surprised to see that the "Greeks" on this board understand what Novell (Eric et al.) is writing on the wall. They are literally like a private and profitable "incubator" for 2nd generation internet infrastructure products, with an installed base of millions to boot. Too bad other longs are confused as if its "Greek to me". =;-)

March came in like a lamb for Novell today. See you later in the month when the Lion roars at $45++.
