Paul,

Athlon is a brand new design, and dissipates a lot of power. PII had terrible power issues at first, but they were corrected over time. I expect that Athlon will do the same.

The last thing that CPU designers worry about for first silicon is power.

Paul, re:<Why do you never whine on about the 52 Watts dissipated by the Athwipey when an equivalently clocked Coppermine dissipates only slightly more than HALF that amount?>

NO Athlon, even 850 MHz, dissipates more than 50 watts.

There is no such thing as an "equivalently clocked Coppermine" to the Spry Athy 850.
